The most memorable for me are the love stories. There are many different kinds of love stories in the Bible, including parents with their children, friendships and loving your enemies, but I really like the marriage relationships in the Bible. You have to read and study the verses closely, but there is so much to learn about what true love really means and how to remain committed in your relationship. Imagine when Abraham first told Sarah they were going to move far away from their families besides bringing Lot along — this may have seemed welcomed at first, but moving away back then meant you were leaving for good.

Ways to Keep CHRIST in Christmas

Twitter messages are posted daily. RSS messages are updated daily. Inspirational Message Archive “It takes faith to believe that the resurrected Lord is watching over the daily details of His kingdom. It takes faith to believe that He calls imperfect people into positions of trust.

To the men he said, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it” (Ephesians ). To the women he said, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord” (Ephesians ).

Last month I posted some statistics on living together before marriage. Since then I have received a number of inquiries as to what the Bible says about living together. So in this post I would like to share some of the Biblical teaching about living together before marriage. This should not be surprising, because the Bible has some strong things to say about living together.

God is a loving God, and he gives us his commands for our protection. Those who choose not to live together before marriage will likely avoid many of the negative outcomes described in the earlier post. Here are some Scriptures on living together before marriage: There is a time to embrace, and a time to refrain. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.

Raising kids in this commercialized world is tough. But sometimes with all the hustle and bustle, it can be hard to keep the focus on the birth of the Savior and the blessings that Christ brings to our lives. There are presents to buy and wrap, Christmas cards to make and send, lights to hang, and goodies to make. This time of year I try to remember our first Christmas together after we got married. I was pregnant and miserably sick. There was no snow or lights or carols.

Dating an unbeliever can hinder your relationship with Christ. Being around an ungodly person can make you start to sin more, act in a different way, talk in a different way, be led astray, and always remember if your life is all about Christ you won’t be able to express and share things about Christ which all believers love to do because there.

John Chan, a junior colleague, got me thinking about how technology impacts our learning and even our church life. I wish to challenge all parts of his general statements. I will only speak on what I know from teaching preachers how to communicate on the pulpit and on New Testament studies. Anyone wanting my further opinion on communications in modern media age can consult my second Chinese monograph on preaching, published by Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary, a textbook I use for my preaching classes.

Yes, years ago! In Phaedrus, he talked about the changing media and how writing could impact the reception of originally oral presentations. The post written by Chan says that people want to read printed books instead of reading e-books is due to habit, and he feel bothered by such a traditional way of thinking. If anything, people often accuse me of being too progressive. The issue is very much more complicated than traditional versus progressive.

He writes that if someone loves to read, he would read using any medium, including using e-books or the computer screen. This is where his baseless opinion begins to fall apart. Reading for data is the lowest level of reading that is mostly primary or elementary school stuff. Reading is mostly not for data. Reading is for interpretation, and when you interpret, you need context.

No one is perfect in a marriage. There will be times that a husband or wife may fail each other, mess up, or do something hurtful. It is important to remember God’s definition of love and know that loving each other deeply can cover all those sins. This verse reminds us the true power of love! A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

The storm of outrage against dating produced a book that encouraged teens to “kiss” teen dating goodbye and go with another option. A flurry of other books dealing with teen dating .

Reflections on Bible, Religion, Society, Sexuality, Politics Saturday, July 25, Dating the Scriptures A couple of months ago, I saw a really interesting post over at Source Theory , that I’ve been wanting to write about for a while, on the conjectural date of the Gospels. He says Recent discussion over at the Synoptic List has again got me wondering at how Matthew, Mark and Luke are presumed to have been written decades apart.

That any of them were written even a decade apart is really only a conjecture, based on a hypothesis of literary dependence which does not really require such a conjecture. Actually the two notions are a bit circular since literary dependence is also based on the notion that the Gospels are written decades apart! The three synoptics may all have been composed within one year of the other two.

I’m quite taken by the idea of Matthew, Mark and Luke being within a year or two of each other. I must admit that I found the standard dating of all four Gospels is too suspiciously neat and tidy. Below is a fairly standard scholarly dating of the four gospels taken from the Wikipedia entry on Gospel:

What Is This Thing Called Love? (1 Cor. ) 1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, find it less in a distinctive semantic range of a particular word group than in the descriptions and characteristics of love given in the Scriptures.
